The REME site, which was used as a tank workshop by the British Army of the Rhine and then housed a cellulose factory, is located in the east of Mönchengladbach. The site, which has an area of about 15 hectares, is a significant part of the city district of Lürrip, for which a local development plan exists. The plan calls for the development of a particularly diverse mix of residential units on the REME site. Spaces for commercial businesses which do not impair residential use will also be available.
About 400 residential units are to be built here. The tank workshop building is to be preserved and can house restaurants, local businesses and small companies. A key element in the development will also be the rehabilitation of the Gladbach stream in the south of the plan area.
